The Golden Week holidays are over and peaceful days have returned, but how are you all doing?
The Emerald Fair is still being held at the Isetan Shinjuku and Osaka stores! Please stop by if you are in the area.
Of course, you can also enjoy shopping at our online shop.
Today, we bring you the fourth installment in our series on the charms of emeralds. The theme this time is about designs that bring out the best in emeralds.
Whether you like simple things or a luxurious atmosphere, I hope this will be helpful for you when choosing your future items.
Let's go!
◆Milgrain
Milling is a decorative technique in which small round beads are stamped continuously onto the edges and lines of the base metal. The beads are stamped in with equal size, spacing, and depth, making it a highly challenging decoration that tests the skill of the craftsman.
"Mille" comes from the Latin milgrain, which means "thousand grains."
This is an ancient technique that has been passed down in Europe and is used in many antique pieces of jewelry.
The milgrain gives the ring a classic and elegant look, and the extra tiny sparkles give it a gorgeous look, even on a simple ring.
The atmosphere changes dramatically between the square and oval shapes in the photo.
◆ Prong
Prong setting is the most well-known method of setting stones in rings.
There are many different types of prong shapes and numbers, but at MONAKA jewellery we change the number and length of the prongs to suit the size and characteristics of the stone.
Because of its shape, it allows light to easily capture the gemstone, making it a design that best brings out the gemstone's brilliance.
If the emerald is highly transparent, like the product below, the prong setting will look amazing!
◆ Collet
The second most common setting after prong settings is bezel settings. At MONAKA jewellery, this is a familiar sight in the Collet ring. It is also called "flush setting".
Bezel settings, which secure the gemstone by covering it with base metal, leave the table surface (the top of the stone) exposed, but the sides are not exposed as they are covered by base metal.
The design is sturdy and less likely to get caught on anything, so it is recommended for everyday use. Recommended for those who like simple designs.
◆Column
This design is an evolution of the previously mentioned bezel setting.
By adding a stepped (uneven) line around the bezel surrounding the stone, the ring is given an even more stylish finish.
The double outline that covers the stone makes this ring simple yet unique. When viewed from the side, the stone appears to stand up, giving it a three-dimensional look.
This is one of MONAKA jewellery's most popular designs.
◆Twist
This also has a bezel setting with an added design.
The design becomes even more gorgeous by decorating the frame with twisted lines. It looks like a braid and is very cute.
The key point is that the size of the twist changes depending on the size and design of the stone.
How was it.
There are also many different designs for the setting of stones and the decoration of the ring frame.
It's fun not only to look for your favorite natural stone, but also to look for designs.
The Emerald Fair is being held until May 28th (Sunday)!
