Birthstones are gemstones that are determined according to the month of birth. Birthstones were invented by a Polish jeweler in the 18th century, and initially the gemstones used varied depending on the jeweler, but they were unified at the American Gemstone Association convention held in the United States in August 1912.
Japan's birthstones were announced in 1958.
It seems that the American version was used as a reference, with some slight modifications made to reflect domestic conditions.
